OUR DJS

OAP-Dub

My story starts in the 00’s where, alongside Country Cockney I was one half of the infamous (in our own heads at least) AWE Soundsystem who gained a reputation as party starters with sets of dance-floor focused breaks. This included residencies at Chew the Fat @ Ministry of Sound and Supatronix, gigs all over the UK, a checklist of big London venues, plus the occasional trip into Europe including a set at Space in Ibiza and at the Carnival of Culture in Berlin. As part of this, AWE played alongside a number of the scene’s big hitters, including Freq Nasty, The Freestylers, Stanton Warriors, Rennie Pilgrem, JDS, Dylan Rhymes, Dopamine, Hyper, Smithmonger, Rogue Element and more. A wild time was had!

As AWE, we were one of the original DJ’s on NSB Radio in 2004, with a show that regularly showcased incredible unsigned artists on their way to becoming established in the scene. We kept our weekly show running until 2008. On a different note, and under my actual name, I have a weekly show on IO Radio playing the best new psych, punk, rock, indie and americana so don’t be surprised by the occasional curveball from these genres when I play on Cutters Choice Radio.

After a few years playing sets of funk and soul, including numerous sets for Rockit Science in Camden and a brief (accidental) career as a wedding DJ, the lure of breakbeat became too much to resist. As well as starting a monthly show on A.N. Other station in 2017, I will be appearing on Cutters Choice Radio every other Friday 5pm til 7pm. I will be digging through my crates of classic nu skool breaks, but definitely taking some musical detours along the way. I may even occasionally play some :gasp: new breakbeat…….
